In the current global economy environment, it has become increasingly important to have up to date information at your fingertips. The news, as we all know, is no longer just newspapers and magazines but also the Internet. For those that rely on the media for their information, a simple outage can be more than just irritating, it can cost you business. Unfortunately for most of us, when that happens, we need to depend on the Internet to get the news. Luckily, for those searching for a silver lining amidst the darkness, this recent loss came only in November and certainly wasn’t January.

This global recession has affected just about everyone, not just the financial institutions and Wall Street insiders. Because of the rapid fluctuations of financial markets, many people are having a difficult time making ends meet and maintaining their homes. This can lead to stress and anxiety on an individual’s mind, and this may affect the way they process information. While many people may focus on the bad news, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the good news isn’t worth your while.

A good example of the importance of current events is found in both print and broadcast journalism. Public radio stations have been especially hard hit because they typically do not focus on the national news. This has made many local stories a rarity on the air, although there have been some exceptions, such as a segment dedicated to a local school shooting. Television viewers can’t help but notice any story that breaks regarding natural disasters or other story making headlines. As a result, when they read about a local story that is breaking, readers may find themselves picking it up just to see what is being said.
