Education Background Checks – Do You Really Know What Does an Education Background Check Show?

In order to work at a place where they can have access to finances in one form or another, most people will need to obtain some type of education background check. Some employers just do not think it is important, but others require a background check on all potential employees. This can also be information that is obtained from a credit report agency. It does not matter who provides this information, but it is a very important thing for any person to know.

When a person applies for employment: The prospective employer will typically run an education background check. Usually, they are looking to see if there are any bankruptcies or tax liens that the prospective employee has. Most employers want a hard worker with no criminal background. However, sometimes this is only considered a soft inquisition and certainly does not affect the prospective applicant s personal credit rating. The information that is provided by these types of verification can be what the employer uses to make a hiring decision.

What does an education background check show is information such as prior addresses, current addresses and perhaps date of birth? However, there is much more that is reported. Sometimes an education verification report will include personal information such as a social security number, driver’s license or even a passport. The more comprehensive the report the more detail that can be obtained. It is important to remember that the information is not released publicly, so most people do not know that their applicants have a clean criminal past unless they take the time to obtain the report themselves.

Another reason that an education background: Check may be requested by an employer is to obtain verification of prior professional licenses. Typically, these types of verification are needed when the application for a new job requires a person to submit a resume with a cover letter. An employer will ask the potential applicant to complete a form that requests information about their professional licenses. They will need to supply the name, address and license number of the license holder in order to verify that the information is current. This verification can be completed quite quickly and will eliminate the possibility of the applicant obtaining a professional license in error.

Sometimes, employers will ask for an education: Background checks as a follow up to a federal employment application or to a drug test. This is to confirm that the potential applicant is who they say they are. In addition, some employers want to check an applicant’s professional licenses to ensure that they did not receive a false certification by a professional. Many times, people attempt to obtain professional license verification on their own, but this can often be a difficult task.

Employers need to be sure that they are hiring: The right people for the jobs that they have open. They need to feel confident in the information that they are working with. It can be difficult to trust someone if they have provided inconsistent information regarding their education and current employment.

For this reason, many employers rely on education background checks to make sure that they are not hiring the wrong people.
